CUSTOMS RETURNS. NEW PLYMOUTH, September 1.

The Customs revenue for August was £3721, as compared with £3,238 for August of 1908. The total for the five months of the financial year is £1661 in excess of the corresponding period of last year. The net Customs duties collected at Dunedin for August were £27,358 8s; beer duty, £2448 12s 6d; gold exported, 86840z. value £34,764. For August of last year the net duty collected was £57,080 10s ; beer duly, .£2473 12s Id; and the gold exported was 13,9390z, value £56,681. There is a falling away in the Customs duties of close on £30,000, and the beer duty remains much the same. The gold * exported last month was 52550z short of that exported 12 months ago.
