OUTRAM.
September 6. — In common with other parts of the country, we experienced a cold snap on Wednesday and Thursday, which hindered to some extent farming operations, but at the time of writing beautiful spring weather prevails. A large area of wheat is being sown in the Taieri this year, and given a good season a record may be expected the coming harvest. I notice Mr P. Robertson, of Huntly, has some acres of potatoes in already. By the way, I hear ho has bought Huntly farm. Lambing. — Lambs are getting plentiful, and giver fine weather for another month a, good percentage will be -the result. The sheep owners want some compensation owing to the low state of the mutton market Sickness.— Owinpr to the changeable weather, cods and influenza are prevalent throughout the district. Football.— On Saturday a football match, Married v. Sinerle. was played on the Recreation Ground. Keen interest was taken in the event, as the benedicts had some old war horses in their ranks. The game was keenly contested, the single men winning by a narrow margin. It is understood that a return match will be played, as the married are very keen on turning the tables. Tennis Olub Social.— The Tennis Club's annual basket social was held in thf* Drill Hall on Friday evening. The hall was tastefully decorated for th° occasior with flags, Chinese lanterns, and racquets. Mr Himmel (Dunedin) supplied the music for the dance, which was kept up till the small hours.
