CHESS ITEMS.
A match by telegraph; 32 a-side, will "je commenced on Saturday, the 11th inst.. at I 7 p.m., between the Oi&go and Tirnaiu Chess Club 3. It is understood that Mi A. W. O. Davies, of Auckland, has been asked to adjudicate upon the four unfinished grmes in the recent Otago v. Wellington match. The results will, it is anticipated, be available at an eaarlj date. ' Mr Arthui E. Remington, member for , Rangitikei, whose death (at the age of 53) was recorded recently, was s competitor in ths 1895 Chess Congress, xnd though not obtaining a place in the prize list, proved himself a doughty antagonist. He has also put up some good games in the matches Civil Service and Legislature v. Wellington Chess Club. Another chess and draughts club ha? been established in Wellington—the Waterside Workers' Chess and Draughts Clttb—starting with a- membership of over 50. The following are the first elected officers:—President, IMr D. M'Laren, M.P.; vice-presidents — I Messrs A. V. W. Munro. I M. Wilford. M.P., and E. Borghetti.
