SOUTH WELLINGTON CHESS CLUB.
The South Wellington Chess Club has gained several new members since removing to the Newtown Public Library, and the management has therefore no cause to regret the club's migration from its old quarters. G-ieat interest is being taken in the club's annual handicap tourney, for which there are 14 entries, the two scratch players being Messrs E. Hicks (last year's winner) and B. B. Allen, who is competing for the first time. Mr Allen is leading with an unbeaten record of 10 wins and 8 "games to pla-y. In close attendance a.re: Messrs Purcha-s, 9—l;9 —1; Hicks, 9—2; Welton, BJ—3J; Harper, 6—3; and Loney. s\—3i. A fixture that is creating, considerable interest is the match between the Hutt and South Wellington Chess Clubs, which is set down for decision at the' Hutt. - Both- c!ubs will, it is understood, bo well represented, ; and* there seems everjtt prospect of a close finish.
