NEW ZEALAND BOXING TEAM.

The Clyde Anglers' Society has a couple of men engaged constructing weire on the Fraser River to prevent the trout dropping down stream during a low river. One weir has, been finished, and has made a fine body of "water in which ,the fish should find good shelter even during the lowest periods of the stream. ■

Huston, of Duuedin, has withdrawn from the New Zealand boxing team for the Australasian championships at- Sydney next month, and that the New Zealand Association has invited M. Ryan, of Bluff (N.Z. heavyweight champion) to accompany the team. Ryan has accepted the invitation. ,

TIMARU, August 19. The August Courting meeting (two days) was finished to-day. The Maiden Stakes was won by Foghorn, with Grand Chester runnerup, and the Open Stake fell to Millbank, ■who beat Q oeensberry -in the final.

Tommy Burns and his party returned to Auckland «by the - Rotorua express on Friday aftjrnoon. A show was given on Thursday evening at Hamilton, a packed* house greeting Burns and his sparring partners. Last evening Burns and Tom Lees were acquainted by the officials of the Northern Boxing Association of the fact that they could not sanction a contest under their supervision in which there were side wagers or bets. The men have, therefore, decided to give a three-round exhibition at His Majesty's on Tuesday evening.

August 23.

Two cheques for £200 each lodged with the Star's sporting editor for a match between Burns and Lees were withdrawn this morning, the Xortfiern Boxing Areociation being willing to match the pair, side wagers not being allowed by law.
