MOSSBURN.
August 20. — The weather here for this last week or so has been very unsettled, snow or rain falling nearly every day, and the surrounding huls present a very wintry appearance, being covered with snow. Entertainment. — Mossburn has been very quiet in the way of entertainments this winter. The quadrille assembly have met in the hall each Friday night for the last month. Great interest has been taken in the Volunteer movement here, and quite a number of the young men have joined. I hear there is_ some talk of starting a public library in Mossburn, and I .think it would be a great benefit io the district if one were started. On Friday, August 13, 'the bachelors of Mossburn gave & ball, which was held in the Public Hall. It Tmng a fine night, there was a very large
attendance, and the bachelors had spared no trouble tt make it a success. Between 50 and 60 couples took part in the grand , march, an-i the very pretty dresses worn j by the iadies made this quite a brilliant ' scene. The music was supplied by Briasco's Band, from Winton. Mr C. Beer carried out his duties as M.C. in a most efficient manner. Supper was laid in a large marquee adjoining the hall. Dancj ing was kept going until about 5 a.m.
