Lake Country Council.— The monthly meeting was held at Queenstown on Wednesday last The business transacted was mostly of a routine nature. In the absence of tho chairman (Mr W. Reid), Cr. Cockbarn was voted to the chair. A communication was received' from Mr J. K. Logan, superintendent of the TelegTaph Department, to the effect that the matter of telephonic communication to Malaghans would receive immediate attention. The council decided Io offer a pound for pound subsidy up to £15 for making a trolly track *t the Roaring Silly, to connect a proposed wool shed of Mr Kain, of Glencoe Station, with the Macetown road. The question of the erection of a traffic bridge over the Kawarau river at the Falls wa» htid over in. tUe meantime, owing to tho low state of the council's funds. It was decided not to appoint an eng-'neer at present, and Mr James Powell was appointed road inspector for three months at a salary of .-£4 per week. -iijShiding expenses The county engineer (Mr**sPare), whese engagement terminates io-dwL took leave of the councillors, and tbank*§ ihem for past courtesies extended him. Lake County^- A. and P. Society. — Tho annual meeting of members was held at Arrowtown this afternoon* and was well attended, Mr R. M. Paterson (president} being in .the chair. Owing to the society having gone to considerable expense last year in purchasing hurdles, etc., the balance sheet showed a debit balance of about £20. Against this, however, the society has now assets valued at about £50. It was decided to hold the annual show on Friday. December 3, on Messrs Reid and M'Dowell's farm, Lake Hayes. Mr R. M. Paterson was re-elected president. Last year's vice-presidents were also re-elected, e/nd Mr P. M. Tobin re-appoint«d secretary and treasurer. The meeting was a most enthusiastic one, which shows that keen interest is still being taken in the society.
