ALLEGED ASSAULT.
TWO MEN COMMITTED FOR TRIAL.
} CHRISTCHURCH, August 4. I At the Police Court to-day, George Nottingham and Frederick William Dennett, who were arrested on July 28 in a private house in Durham street, pleaded " Guilty " ; to a charge of being found in Sophia Clark's house with intent to commit a. crime, anS were committed for sentence. The same accused were charged with j having on July 27 assaulted Julia Harney, I with intent to* rob* her.
%h& evidence showed that at 10.30 on the night mentioned two men followed Miss Ilarney, and one put las hand over her mouth, whilst the other, when she screamed, hit her on the eye and cheek. One man searched her belt and pocket, whilst the other held her Miss Harney could not positively swear that accused were the men who assaulted her, bat another witness who saw the two men standing near where the alleged assault was oommitfied, and heard the cries for help, had identified Nottingham at the police station among other men. Both accused pleaded "Not guilty," and were committed for trial.
