CRUELTY TO ANIMALS.

MASTERTON, August 9. It has been reported to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals that some rabbiters skinned a number of rabbits alive, and let them go, to see howfar they would run with their skins off. It is anticipated that it will not be a difficult matter to secui-e sufficient proof to warrant court proceedings.

The Willesden Guardians have placed all the able-bodied male paupers in a position to cultivate the land, and have now decided* to divide the workhouse grounds into allotments and to let them to working men living in the neighbourhood.

Mr G. Perrynian Hartnoll, who has dted at Braunton, North Devon, aged 99, was probably the oldest churchwarden in England, having filled the post for 50 years without a break.
