BALLOON FIRED ON

♦ ST. PETERSBURG, August 12. Some Russian Guards "fired on a German balloon which was crossing the Silesian frontier near Proziliaka, and compelled its descent. Three of the aeronauts were killed and the fourth severely wounded. The Germans slate that the Russians opened fire before the balloon had crossed the frontier. August 13. THe Silesian frontier incident is contradicted. It is officially stated that the aeronauts were merely detained and their passports examined, after which they were allowed to depart.
