GREYMOUTH NOTES.
(Fkom Our Own Correspondent.)
GREYMOUTH. February 26. One of the pleasing features of the present buoyancy in the coal trade is the keen demand that exists for the Blackball article. In addition to supplying the New Zealand Shipping Company, the Blackball proprietary have other extensive orders on hand, with the result that vei"y good time is being worked at the mine. Considerable interest centres in the Land Board election, which will be held on March 31. There are four candidates — viz. : Messrs George Mallinson (Kotuku), John Ryall (Barrytown), John Ward (Runanga), and Wiiliam Morgan (Greenstone). The election will be conducted by the Commissioner of Crown Lands, and at it there are 900 persons qualified to vote.
Greymouth seems to be in a fair way to put up a record in court business during this quarter. Considerably over 100 criminal cases have already been, dealt with this year, while the civil list has ako been very large.
