WANGANUI, February 20. The Aotea Land Board was occupied all day heaiing an application by Messrs Gammon and Co. for timber-cutting rights over blocks situated between Raetihi and Ohakune. Mr Skerretfc appeared in support of the application, which was objected to by Messrs C. B. Morrison and Boilase, who appeared for Meesrs Proud andAbbott. who had obtained consent to a lease of portion of the land affected. Briefly put, the circumstances are as fol« low: — In 1902 the Nathes negotiated with the Aotea Land Board to \cst the Raetihi lands in the board to deal with them as 2STati-v.-« agents. About that time Alessie Gammon and Co. were also in treaty with the Natives for timber-cutting rights, and made certain pioposals which weie accepted by tho Natives, certain of these Natives al«o having signed an agreement to vest these lands in tho board." Subsequently Messrs Proud and Abbott came along and obtained a provisional consent to a lea^e, which has not vet been 0011firmed or sealed by the board ; hence today's procee diners. The case will be continued to-morrow.
