CHILD DROWNED AT KAKANUI.
(From Our Own Corbespondent ) OAMARU, February 24.
A two-year-old child, the daucliter of Robert Burns, limeburner, was drowned at Kakanui under distressing circumstances. The child was left in the care of a girl 11 years old, who went away for a few minutes. On the girl's return the infant was not to be seen, and a search resulted in her being foupd head down in a bath of -water in the Aihenasum premises. Medical aid was procured from Oamaru, but Dr Whitton oould only pronounce life extinct. The indications are that- the child wandered to the bath and began to play with an apple in the water, and then fell in. A coroner's jury on Sunday found a verdict .of death by accidental drownj.ju^
