NATIVE LAND COMMISSION.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) AXJCKIjANO, February 2A. An important sitting of the Native Lend Commission will commence at Otorohanga, in the King Country, on Wednesday. It is probable that over 2,000,000 acres of Native land will be dealt with. The bulk of the^ast area which will be the subject of the commissioners' inquiries extends from the Waikato River -to the West Coast, covering an area quite 50 miles square, and including the townships of Te Awamutu and Taumarunui. There is every reason to believe that after the commission has finufhetl its labours in the locality fully one-half 08 the area will be found to be available for European settlement. Tfie land will not be thrown open at once, as a good deal of surveying will have to bo done, and tha regulations necessary for the administration, of the Maori Land Settlement Act passed last session, are not ready, though their preparation is well advanced.
