TWO FIRES AT TIMARU.

TIMARU, February 24. Two attempts to destroy buildings by fire were discovered here in the early hours of yesterday morning. Shortly after midnight on Saturday a fire, composed of chips oj wood, bits of sacking, and coal, was found! at the foot of long timbers reared agamstJ the outer wall of the Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company's wool store. In the store were 2500 bales of wool. Had the fire been left a few minutes longer the whole store must have gone. The other fire was discovered about the same time outside Dalgety and Co.'b business premises. In thi6 case two empty cement casks had, with the aid of small wood and paper, bcon lighted against the wall of a wooden building, in which kerosene and sheep dip were stored. This alto was discovered just as the fire was getting a good hold.
