ARRANGEMENTS FOR CARRYING ON BUSINESS.

Mr P. L. Hallenstein, managing director of the D.I.C , when interviewed by a reporter this morning, stated that the whole of the company's books and papers (hut little else) had been saved intact. In the meantime the clerical business would be carried on in the upper portion of Messrs Dalgety and Co.'s new building, situated in Cathedral square. Negotiations wore pending for retail prerpisos for both the D.I.C. and the Clothing Factory, and as coon as these were concluded, which would be during "the course of a day or two at the outside, full work would be afforded for the whole of the staffs. Messrs D. Benjamin and Co. have removed their headquartois to their store in Dundas street, while Messrs Ashley, Bergh, and Co. will locate their office at their store in Cashel street. Mr John Neill, of tnc White Hart Hotel, is one of the heaviest losers. The whole of his and his family's personal belongings were destroyed, and Captain Rogers (infantry drill instructor), who boarded in the house, was similarly unfortunate. There were comparatively few lodgers in the house, there having been a large exodus of Australian visitors during; the day. The staff of 17 servants, besides losing much of their effects, have aho been depiived of work.
