JUSTICE S THE PEACE.
AUCKLAND, January 23. • The fact that Justices of the Peace sre now omitted from the list of those authorised to take or witness an ad valorem declaration under the Justices of the Peace Act was referred to at to-day's meeting of the Council of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce by Mr S. J. Nathan. He said that Justices -of the Peace were entitled to take other declarations of a much more responsible nature, , and in the interests of the public convenience' they might surely, be trusted to take declarations in regard to customs matters, especially as this had been the practice for some time past. Mr. M'Farlane said the authority previously given to justices of the peace had proved of considerable convenience to^importers. It was resolved to make representations j on the mater to 'the Minister in charge.
