ATTEMPTED SUICIDE.

1 CHRISTCHUROH, January 28. }° Miss Grimes was charged- this afternoon before Mr H. W. Bishop, S.M., with- attempting to commit suicide. The young lady said, when asked for an. * explanation, that she was rather hysterical at times. A little time ago a young man whom she was engaged to died. She met a brother of this gentleman on the Maori last evening, and after talking about -her late intended, became despondent, and attempted to jump overboard. She had had such a lesson now that she would not attempt the act again. .The Magistrate pointed out the serious position she had placed herself in, and after getting a. promise from her tKat she. would not make an attempt to take her life again he discharged her.
