POLICE v. PEASANTS. LONDON, January 10. The peasantry in the Zeevagh Mountains (Sligo) prevented the postman delivering his registered letters containing processes to the tenants on two estates who had refused to pay their rents. Two hundred police escorted the postman, but withdrew owing to the threatening attitude of the peasants. j A COUNCILLOR SHOT. ' LONDON, January 10. While driving to attend the County Council at Clare, in order to vote for a particular candidate for the post of returning officer, Cr O'Loughlin "was waylaid and shot in the chest.
