January 11. M. Lemoine, the engineer who was arrested on a charge of swindling a South African mining magnate of £64,000 by pretending that he 'was able to manufacture diamonds, denies that his system is a fraud, and claims that he has demonstrated his discovery. He says he made a contract . with Julius Werner in which it was stipulated that the formula to manufacture diamonds should be de-posited-in a London bank, to remain there unopened until his death, when it would become Werner's property. The magistrate is considering the question of obtaining and opening the envelope containing the formula.
