VICTORY BALL.
TENDERED TO HUI MAI TOOTBALLEKS.
The ludies of Munakuu are to be heartily -congratulated on the success of the ball, tendered to members of (he Hui Mai Football Club last night, (in account of the success of the senior team this season. Besides winning the championship the phi vers from senior 10 thud-class did splendidly and the Munakau residents have not been slow in recognising the fact. The ladies responsible fur tho gathering had certainly worked hard in making preparations, and all arrangements were very complete. The interior of the hall had been effectively decorated with the club's colours —green and white. Clematis and white camelias, with ferns, and hero and there a jersey and a football, were noticeable, while "Welcome Hui Mai" appeared in large green letters on a background of white. The Kikihana orchestra supplied splendid music, Mr. li. Evans was an energetic M.C., while Die supper arrangements, supervised by a largo number of ladies, were all that could, be desired, and visitors especially were well catered for. Mrs. Bryant, as secretary, proved most cap-: able, while those who assisted her worked most energetically,
At a suitable interval Mr. R. Creed, secretary of the chili, called upon Major 'latum, one of the le.-idiiig lights of the club, to return thanks. In doing so the Major heartily thanked the Indies for their tine work and stated that all through the season they had shown considerable interest in the club, and members appreciated all that had been done. The club, he said, had had a very successful year, and this he considered was largely due to the ladies. The club Idol won the shield and narrowly missed winning the Nash Cup, being beaten when they should have won. He felt sure that nyi season the club would maintain its nigh position. He also expressed a desire that the cluli would retain the shield. In conclusion he thanked visitors from Otaki for their attendance. (Applause). Mr. Creed also extended thanks to ihe ladies, and said footballers were grateful to them. The promoters had worked hard ami were deserving oi success. i Applause).
