JAPANESE RELIEF FUND
COLLECTION IN QTAEJ donations to the Relief Fund corn meneed by His Grace, Archbishop Julius, for the benefit of the sufferer? in the recent Japanese earthquake a:now being collected in Otaki. Last Sunday in all Anglican Churches of this diocese the Bishop of Wellington 's pastoral was read, it says: 1 tun sure that vou all most deeply sympathise with "the people of Japan In the measureless calamity which has befallen them. I suppose it is true to say that owing to density of population the recent earthquake has been the most disastrous in all recorded history. You will be pleased to know that His Grace the Archbishop has cabled to tne Bishop of South Tokio a message or svmpatkv from the churcE in New Zealand. But something more than verbal svmpathy, however sincere, is needed. The Archbishop has suggested, and the other Bishops of the province most heartily concur, we as a church, should*at once see about raising a relief fund to be sent to the authorities of the church in Japan, to.be by them administered for the relief of distress. It is not intended that the benefits of this fund should be confined to those of the sufferers who are Christians. 1 am sure that the Japanese Christians themselves would not desire this. But I think that our fellow churchmen in Japan would greatly appreciate our eni trusting to them the administration of I the fund, and would rfyki-n if as. a j most bro'liefiy net on uur part, !ll, d j this hour of darkness would be grea ! heartened thereby. Never before have iwe had so great an opportunity or , showing that we recognise them to be [ of the same ‘Household of faith wi.p ! ourselves. r \
