FOXTON (3) v. OTAKI (3)

A splendid gam'e resulted at Otaki ’ between the above teams, but the do- | main was in bad order, and the going was heavy. In consequence of this j both teams tired badly towards the fin- j ish. From the kick-oil good play was 1 1 witnessed, and tiin'e and again each j side would attack. The defence on ; - both sides, however, was sound, and no , < score was recorded in the first half. In

the second spell Otaki, while attacking strongly, scored. Kehu touching down. Taliiwi failed at goal. Foxton made frantic endeavours to even matters, and after a strenuous struggle proved successful, Westwood scoring. Taylor failed to convert. From this to the finish play was of an interesting nature but no further score resulted. Mr T. Parata was referee. : In the back division for Otaki Taipua proved reliable at full, while Batchelor and Nicholson gave good exhibitions. Udy got very few openings, while Taliiwi was inclined to hang to the ball. The forwards all played splendidly, the hookers, Bcvan and Kchu, securing the ball repeatedly in great style. Rhodes also played with much dash.' All others did remarkably well. During the game Taliiwi had four shots at goal, comparatively easy ones, hut missed on each occasion by a narrow margin. The distance and greasy ball were against him. Foxton proved a fine combination. Their backs kicked and collared well and knew what to do with the ball, while the forwards were of an even nature — all solid grafters. An interesting game should result when next the teams meet. i
