DUNEDIN THREATENED. TAIERI FARMERS IN SORRY PLIGHT. j To be driven out of their homes twice within the last three weeks has , been th'e lot of the residents of the ; Northern end of Dunedin. ■ It rained so heavily there yesterday j that the streams which junction below the Botanical Gardens over-flowed their ! banks. j Hundreds of families in the NorthI East Valley left their homes, fearing j a repetition of the dangerous condi- ! : ions which prevailed three weeks ago. | Large sections of the residential por--1 tions of th'e city were under watw, and ' water was rushing down Duke Street j like a mill-race. Large gangs of men were guarding J the railway to prevent the water enj tcring the city through the Caversham l t uunel. j i The settlers on the Taieri Plains are | in a sorry plight, as the roads in that . district are under water for miles.
