OBITUARY.

* MR SAMUEL GRINDROD.

Mr Samuel Grindrod. otto of Otaki‘s oldest Settlers, passed away quietly at

his residence, Otaki Railway, early on Saturday morning, aged SI years, he celebrating his birthday on Wednesday

last. Deceased, who celebrated his golden wedding in 1920, was born in London and came to New Zealand in : the Caroline Corrinsliire, landing at Lyttelton. A short time afterwards he was married at Christchurch, where lie resided for some time. He came to the North Island, and for years worked in the Manavvatu district, where he assisted in the building of the various railway bridges, including the One at Otaki. For the past 35 years he lists resided in this town, leading si quiet j life. He had always enjoyed good liestlth. stud even up to the time of his i death was in his usual spirits. Dpi ceased, during Friday, was about as ttsi ual, and his relatives were sadly shocked oa discovering him dead by Ills bedside tit 9.30 on Saturday morning. Dr. Sharp was immediately summoned, and

gave a certificate that death was dm to heart failure. Those left to mourn their less «r< Mrs Fsirrelley (Khandallah). Mrs T. Morgan (Otaki Railway), Mrs Fair ley (Te Horo). and Mr Georg.- Giiind rod. of Feildittg. for whom much sym putliv is felt.
