GOLF
The Club has invariably been fortunate in having fine weather for its opening day. Saturday - was rather bleak with a cold wind. However, a verv large number of golfers and their friends turned up to inaugurate the reign of the putters anti the niblick in place of the racket and the bowls. Lire various competitions were keenly contested, and some good play was shown, especially by the new members. The ladies’ long-driving was won by Mrs Holmes, who just beat Mrs \V. .Ml. Simcox. The ladies’ approaching and putting ,v;is taken by another new member. Mrs Lee. after a tie with Mbs Sievers. Ln the men’s long-driving Sievers and .J. W’intcrburn both drove excellent balls, the former gaining the prize by a few feet. The same two players tied for the approaching and putting with ihe good score of nine for three bails.
