OTAKI BOROUGH COUNCIL.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the above was held last night. Present: His Worship the Mayor (Mr J. P. Brandon) C. Kilsby, J: R. Bills, A. W. Broadway, H. Cockrell, R. Carkeek, and H. Taylor. Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows: — From Eric Morse, asking for permission to screen pictures on Good Friday. —Granted, subject to the programme being approved of by the Mayor and Town Clerk. From G. Reay, asking for a two-horse power Poitou wheel. , Cr. ICilsbv moved that the application be granted, h-eeonded by Cr. Broadway and carried, fhe Clerk >ug--1 gested it be granted subject to the pleasure of the Council. From Plumbers’ Board stating that all plumbers wishing to do sanitary work must be registered.—Received. } The ranger (W. Bailey) reported having impounded seven head of stock.

Sewerage. — 1 hope to be ready is a few* days’ time to be able to call for tenders for laying of sewerage pipes, and would suggest the Council meet to consider the plans (before the tenders . are nailed) say lit M days’ time. The Mayor stated that the report 1 given by Mr Davies on his visit to I Auckland was a very able and interest- i ing one. remarks that were cndoiscd by Councillors. It was agreed to put in crossings tit 1 various places on Rnngiuru and Mill : roads. C.r. Bills asked if progress had been 1 maintained on the water-works as dm- : ing the first month. It appeared to ] him that progress had been slow of late. Cr. Kilsby stated the work had moved along fairly well, and that the men should be at the main county road by Saturday, while the Mayor thought the work might be expedited by laying wipes in the main streets. This, however, was not tavored by the Engineer. Finance Committee’s Report. Works’ Committee Report. Correspondence was read from the Railway Department conveying deed permitting Council to go under the railway line with the water pipes.— Council recommended to authorise the placing of seal with necessary signature.- on the deed. Recommended that Mr Heald be thanked for offering to place conveniences at men’s bathing shed at the beach, also that Council have one installed at the ladies' shed. Committee authorised the placing of seal on plan submitted by Mr- Cobb to Mrs Davidson, subject that no building would be erected on section -■ The Committee, on the advice of Mr Martin, recommended Council to apply for exemption of land as required by Mr Ryder, .subject to the building line being placed 33ft. from the centre of the roadway. al«o that the water tables, where overgrown, be cleaned out, and ask for a return of cost of first male of laying the water mains.
