The annual "break-up" of Mi" Johnstone's music pupils took place on i SafrurcUty last. Friends and parents tcoompanied the pupils who had attended i»i large force, notwithstanding the torrents of win, which fell throughout the afternoon. The hail IwOked exceptionally gay with its decorations of mauve and pink blooms, carried out under the supervision of Miss Molly Maclean. Mrs Hadfield sent an apology regretting being unable to attend, owing to illness, and preside as usual. All the pupils contributed to a musical programme, which was much appreciated by the visitors. Certificates were then presented to Miss Dodds, Miss Maclean. Miss Elsie Howeli, and Miss Tes» Barnett. who all pased the elementary exam of the Royal Academy of Mumc. afternoon. Afternoon tea was then partaken of at the conclusion of which Mr Malcolm Maclean rose, and, in e speech, said he wished to thank Miss Johnstone, on behalf of the parents, for the manner in which that young lady had conducted her classes throughout fiie year. No teacher could have her pupils' interests move at heart than Miss Johnstone, and he extended to her congratulations for the success which had attended her efforts. She had? done particularly well at the examinations, all her pupils having passed, while Miss E- Fortune gained honours ta the intermediate division. Judging by the programme, to which he listened that afternoon, he could see that the pupils were making good progress. On the motion of Mr Maclean, Miss Johnston* was accorded a hearty rfete of
