Correspondence was read and dealt I\\ • tii as follows:—From Department, of Health, advising the result of the recent conference of local bodies in respect of the contributions to be made to the salary of the inspector of Health. The Council’s share was reported to be £166 per year, a- decrease on the j previous estimate. The amount, howj ever, was considered excessive, and it. It was decided to grant £5 per annum to the Club.

From W. 11. George, submitting reading and subdivision proposals near Hayward’s. He offered the necessary land for a road to lead to the reserve, and to provide half the cost of construction provided the Government gave half the cost.—Offer to give land to connect Belmont East road accepted. From J. Worden, complaining of drainage constructed by the Wellington Racing Club to the detriment to his property. —Received. From Mary Amies, complaining of D. Andrews removing spoil to the detriment of her property. She asked that the Council give her proper access to her land. —To be attended to. and a request made that Andrews pay his rates. From W. O. Thomas, asking the Council to fence the gravel reserve at Trentham and remove noxious weeds. Cr. Whiteman considered the gorse should be cut. but did not see why the place should be fenced. —Matter referred to Cr. AVliiteman and the Inspector

to report at tlio next meeting. From S. M. Harrison, applying for a camping permit, on tlie Council s property at Lowry Bay.—The Chairman considered the application should be carefully considered as fires were likely tn occur. —Left to the Chairman, with , power to act. From L. and G. Phillips (Kaitoke) asking the Council to give employment to their teams in repairing the Kaitoke roads: —Decided not to comply with the request. The Ranger. The ranger reported that in the i Epttni riding he had impounded .two horses and a cow. —This was considered satisfactory, due, as Cr. Whiteman stated, to the large quantity of feed in paddocks. Air Griffith reported that in | other places stock were a nuisance. This was supported by Cr. Edwards, but said the ranger seldom, if ever, visited the locality referred to. Some fanners, he added, grazed the roads for all they were worth. It was decided that the ranger be instructed to visit Parks’ Line on account of numerous complaints. Cr. Edwards also took exception to a person (Lutz) throwing stones from his property to the road-side, and moved that he be given notice to remove them, otherwise the Council would do so at his expense.

The Inspector said he had heard of the complaint and had made representation to have the nuisance abated. Decided that Lutz be given 14 days to remove the stones, otherwise the Council would take action. Inspector’s Report. The Inspector (Air Cudby) reported that, a bridge at Akatarawa had been strengthened, and was safe to carry a reasonable load for two years. Belmont bridge had also received attention. while 500 super-feet of timber had been ordered for Pahnutanui for repair work. The lorry was working satisfactory in the Wliareroa riding, but the broken weather was responsible for the non-completion of Alaupoko road. The lorry was carting metal from Paekakariki quarry to the road south of Paraparaumu. Two trucks of metal had been ordered from Paekakariki for Paremata. -while two pipe culverts had been put. in on Aloore's Valley Road, AVuiuui-o-mata, and two 12in. sets had been ordered for the Wainui-Orongoronga Road. —Report adopted. Riding Expenditure. The expenditure so far this year in the various Ridings was reported to be:—Epuni £951, Horokiwi £IOO2. Mungaroa £1492. Wainui-o-mata £533, AYhareroa £5Ol. The month’s expenditure in the latter Riding totalled £ll2 16s, Wainui-o-mata £6l. Mungaroa £169, Horokiwi £S4, Epuni £351. Miscellaneous. It was decided to pay one-third of jthe cost towards making a road past the reserve at Paekakariki, it^being

stated that Mr Smith and the Government were willing to do likewise. The Chairman and Cr. Foley were appointed the Council’s representatives to discuss matters concerning the Taita cemetery. t The acting-secretary of the Hutt Valley Power Board wrote asking the I Council what date would be convenient | for a meeting to discuss various matters in connection with the scheme, and stating Mr Toogood was anxious to dis- ' cuss things in detail. —Decided to meet Mr Toogood on January 36. The dog registration was fixed the same as last year, viz., 2s fid for sheep j and cattle dogs and 10s for sporting dogs. It was decided that the Christinas and New Year holidays be as last year, and that the next meeting of the Council take place on the 16th January. Owing lo the Clerk’s illness it was reported that nothing had been done in connection with Hie J’araparaumtt I level crossing. | In answer to Cr. Mackay tiie Inspector said he had inspected pipes at Packttkariki, and found them satisfactory, while others had been reported to him ns being quite alright. Cr.
