DEMANDS IN PARLIAMENT. BETTER WELLINGTON-COUNTRY CONNECTION. TRAIN FROM OTAKI REQUIRED. Mr W. H. Field (Otaki) desired to ask the Minister for Railways whether, having refused to accept a guarantee from financially substantial residents to indemnify the Railway Department against possible loss which may ensue from the extension of the suburban service on the Manawatu line to Pukerua or Paekakariki, and having demanded a cash deposit instead, he will j state what amount of deposit he requires for the extension to Pukorua and Paekakariki respectively; and whether, in assessing the amount of such deposit, he will have regard to the fact that while the extension of the service might result in loss "for a year jr more it would probably effect a substantial increase of revenue a little atcr ou.
EAJILY MORNING TRAIN FROM PALMERSTON NORTH. Mr W. H. Field (Otaki) gave notice on Friday to ask the Minister for Railways whether he will without delay give definite consideration to the request, repeatedly made for many years past by the member for Otaki, for an early morning fast passenger train one morning a week to begin with, arriving in Wellington before 9 a.m., or, alternately, an early morning fast passenger train from Palinerston North, relieving the pressure on the Auckland express, arriving in Wellington at, say, about 10.30 a.m.
