MANY PliEMlS&s VISITED. shannon was thrown into quite u state oi excitement on Monday morning when it became known that during Sunday night attempts had been made to burglarise several business premises in the town. The first intimation ol anything being wrong was discovered by the local slationiaaster shortly alter opening up the station office on Monday morning, when he observed that the big bow window in from of the office was open and on a close inspection being made he found it had been forced. He then had a look around to .see il anyone had been in the office, but there was no sign, everything being in order. The sale, cash drawer and papers were untouched. It is thought that the culprit or culprits, after forcing the window, changed their minds and did uot enter the premises The police were at once informed and made an investigation, but were unable to get any clue.
Later on it. was discovered that a number of other premises had been visite4 ; and in each '.ase the attempt to make an entrance had ended in failure. In each case they had attempted to force the doors open with some -harp instrument, as the sides of the doors in most cases were considerably hacked about, ft is surmised the* culpfi's u§6d a tomahawk, as one is missing from the si&iioh The premises visited were those of Messrs. \V. If. Gunning and Co., i. H. Fargher and Co., i- V. Burns, Cash Trading Co., H. Hook, and A. De Luen arid Co. It is quite evident it was the work ol amateur*.
