FARMERS' UNION.
MANAKAU BRANCH. A very enjoyable evening, under the auspice* of the above, was held on October 4th. in the Parish Hall. About seventy members and friends were present, and the opinion was expressed that ro.ort of these social evenings should" be held. It is satisfactory to the executive to know that although the entertainment was not intended in anv wav as a money-making affair enough were present to make the social a financial success. A progressive euchre party was held during .the gari of the evening, some- fifty «M play»rs taking pari' Supper was provided by the ladies, who were indefatigable, and the success of the evening is entirely owing to their efforts. The President, Mr Burnell, in a few words, thanked those present for their attendance, and trusted everyone had enjoyed themselves. lie then called upon Mrs Burnell to present the prizes to first lady. Miss Cotter; first gentleman, Mr Cotter: consolation (lady) Mrs H. G. Bryant: consolation (gentleman). Mr Horn. junr. pan-ling concluded at a late hour.
