OLD-TIME BUSH TRAGEDY

SKELETON FOUND IN TARAML'AS. Whilst pig hunting in the Tararuas on Monday, Mr P. Hassall, of Levin, made the discovery of a skeleton in a. remote part of the range in the vicinity of the old sawmill opposite Ohau. The country thereabouts was heavily timbered at one time, and is still covered with considerate growth. The skeleton presented no elite to identity, as it had evidently lain so long that every vestige of dotliuiy hud disappeared, the only articles of wear discovered being a pair of boots and a leather band, evidently Iroin the inside ol a cap. The find was made in a. sheltered spot, where the. miiortiinate man hod laid down lo take his lust rest. The police intend visiting the spot today to mak* investigations, as it is not known of anyone being missing from this district for the last ten or twelve years.
