FOOTBALL.
OLD BOYS (12) v. PARA-PARAUMU (11). This mutch was played at Otaki, and those who missed it were very unfortunate as the contest was a particularly interesting one. Old Boys headed a loose rush five minutes after the start, and Utiku scored a good try. Enoka failed at goal, 3—o. From the kick-off D 'Ath and Guldens headed a rush and carried the ball some fifty yards, while shortly after the latter was again conspicuous. The visitors in turn forced play and foolish off-side play gave Clothier an easy shot at goal. He, however, missed badly. The attack was maintained and Clothier, Green and Cluuie were prominent. Old Bovs again gave a breach, and this time Clothier made no mistake, landing a neat goal. 3—3. Then came a corkscrew run by D. D’Ath, who beat several opponents and scored. The feat was a line one and the score deserved. Guldens failed at goal, 6—3. A loose rush saw W. D’Ath prominent, and from a mark D. D’Ath had a shot at goal but the ball rebounded. Then came another free kick against Old Boys but .Clothier failed to find the uprights. The spell thus ended, Old Boys ft. Pram. 3.
The second half was decidedly interesting and both sides played in a determined manner. The backs were like clock-work, while the forwards shirked nothing. Old Boys soon made an infringement but Clothier missed the goal. The attack was intained and Waggery evened matters by scoring a good try, which was unconverted, (i—li. The visitors at this stage were having the best of the game, but Old Boys worked Trojan-like and soon had Drain, pressed. A loose rush, aided by off-side play unnoticed by the referee, saw the Old Boys’ goal endangered, and soon Howell forced his way under the bar. Clothier made no mistake at goal, and Pram. led. 11—<5. Give and take play followed till Old Boys got an advantage, and from a penalty kick Enoka sent tke ball over the bar. 11 —9. Then came a sensational run by 1). D’Ath, who beat several opponents and reached the full back. Guldens followed shortly after by a good run and narrowlv missed the coveted line. Bo me
livelv line-out and serum work was then witnessed, and Pnraparaumu appeared determined to keep ahead. Old Boys were alive to the fact and responded, gamely. The hitter were attacking strongly when Clothier broke away and turned defence into attack. Cluuie missed almost a certain try through dropping the lull!. This was followed by Green making a good run. Ransfield saving in fine style. The ball then traversed the length ot the Held, and Enoka had a shot at goal but missed. With three minutes to go play continued willing but the home boys pressed, and a penalty kick v.as all to their advantage, Enoka kicking a neat goal. Old Boys 12. Pram. 11. I-.veite-ment prevailed bur no further score was registered. Mr Leu LMy was referee. For the winners D. P'Aib was the pick, his running and passing being pleasing features. Ir was his best game this'season. Giddens also played well throughout. Mclntyre and King were handisapped on account of tin* fine set of opposing forwards. All the Old Boys’ \ ail guard worked hard, »ut Wallace D’Ath n»s most prominent. Clothier. Green and Cluuie were the pick ot' the visiting backs, while Howell, Maclean, and Clark were the pick of a fine set of forwards. The visitors, although defeated, were by no means disgraced.
OTAKI (3fv. KUKU (0). This game, played under adverse circumstances on a small field, proved enly a secondary consideration t* the Old Boys-Paruparuumu match. Play, generally, was of a mediocre nature, but occasional brilliant flashes of play were noticeable. In the firs*- half P;e-m.in by fine following up scored, but 3ubritzky missed the uprights—aiql a window, the latter by a small margin. No further score was registered, and thus the Otnki-ite* were hailed as winners. Mr K, Davis was referee.
Hui M»i thirds beat Training Farm. S—3. after a good game. X. B.cvan and McPherson scored for tie winners while Mickell converted one try. The Farm dropped-kiekeU a goal. Mr Shodc-s was referee. Te Hero, thirds had an easy run over Old Boys. IT —0. The latter put up a game fight tor the first half, but alter this their play was of a mediocre nature. Mr Ralph Thompson was referee. Shannon forfeited to Hui Mai on Saturday, and the latter’s chances for the senior championship are very bright. They meet Wanderers, and an easy v-in i; predicted which will gbo Bui Mai the coveted honor.-.
Fox ton defeated Wanderers at I ox- * ton, 9 —3, and in consequence there ivys jubilation at the seaside port. Two junior championship matches were set down to be played at Otaki on Saturdav, tho Union being under the impression that there were two fullsized fields. There was a general mixup. and while matters were being 4keussed the third-class team- took charge of the main ground. When the time set- down for the ether matches arrived further argument followed, but a toss of the coin decided in favor of the *ld Boys-Paraparaumu match. Kuku-Ota-ki players therefore had tq pc content w;tii playing on a Add 100 yards by GO yards, unmarked lines, and goals on the extreme boundary of th* ground. Old Boys bv their wi* on Saturday are now leading for the enampiC-nihif; Paraparaumu anq Otaki next in order. lower end of tke district at t-he action of the Union declaring that all repmatches be played at Levin. In consequence it is understood that a deputation will be present at the Union meeting to-morrbw night to enter a protest. It is also suggested that as the Union gets 85 per cent, of all gate-money that improvement be done on the Otaki ground. The gate-takings at Saturday’s marches at Otaki totalled £2 17s 6d. So far this season £3l 11s have been collected at football matches in Otaki. Of this the Union gets £2t 5s 9d. and the Otaki Borough Council less than £5. Wellington Results.
