Finance. —The total receipt- since I the 31st March amount to £9<>J .Id, j ami the expenditure to £1341 12- 2d. ! having an overdraft of £377 3- 3d. j The small amount of Overdraft i- ac- ! counted for by the fact that all the , waves for the month of March, and various other accounts have been taken into the Antecedent Liability. Riding Accounts. —AH riding accounts with the exception of Horokhvi • show credit balances. The debit. £43 18- 2d, for florokiwi is accounted for by two extraordinary payments, namely. pipes supplied to the Public Works Department £32 ss‘ -id. and repair:- to the lamp- at Plirnmertorr £l3 9- 3-1 These amounts will not be recurring, but trie amount over-spent £3O 2-- 40 for this month has absorbed thv credit from last month and created tb<- debit as above. Mungaroa riding has over- . spent this month. £37 9s Id. 1 have to draw attention to the fact that the account for cartage from this riding . amount- to £43 12-. the amount agreed upon was £4'i per month. Odlin’s Hoad.—During the month I made a further application for the Government subsidy due to us for this work with the result that £l3O was placed to our credit on the 31st" May, 1922. Surplus Pipes (Pac-kakariki). —As instructed 1 approached both Otaki and Foxton Boroughs with the view to the sale of these pipes, but in both cases our offer could not be entertained. In the meantime John Duthie Co. received an offer from Palmerston North for these pipes, which I accepted at the rate of 4s per foot. This will result in a credit of £SO for the waterworks account. W. Strand, Claim.—The cheque for £3O in settlement of Mr Strand's claim has been paid over to hire and he in turn has settled all outstanding rate*. Loans.—The State Advances have acknowledged our preliminary application for £SOO (10 per cent, additional) required in addition to the £SOOO to complete the P&ekakariki water supply. The application is receiving favorable consideration. The precedent consent for the loan of £2OOO in connection. with the Paknratahi and Stoke? Valley bridges has been granted and the procedure for the raising of this loan is now* in hand. In connection with this matter Mr T&ogood suggests that as soon ‘-as the Government subsidies (applied for) are available that tenders for this work be called. Soldiers' Rates. —The Discharged Soldiers’ Settlement Branch have advised that they have bought in the property of S. H. Adams. Mungaroa, and P. .7. Baaske. Epuni. The rates owing on these properties are £24 15s lOd and £22 respectively, and the Department further advises that the amounts that they will pay us will be £ll 10= and £l3 7s -id. I have mad « personal rS-

presentation to the officer in charge and he states that our only remedy against such properties is to secure judgment each year. Licenses.—l understand that Cunningham Brothers, Upper Hutt, have several vehicles plying for hire, and that the Inspector has drawn their attention to the non-registration of these vehicles. To date only- one is registered. I suggest that in this and similar cases proceedings be commenced immediately. Messrs Campbell Bros, have paid tlm amount of £25 for Heavy Traffic Incense. and as they have had a license for 1920-21, I ask the Council’s direction to which year this amount is to bo placed.—A. ,1. MacPhorson. It was decided to secure the solicitors’ advice on the matter of heavy traffic license, otherwise the report was adopted, as it stood.
