* The following reports were read at the last Borough Council meeting:— Works Committee’s Report. From Public Works Department, rz building line of Li Street and Aolaki Street now Mr .lames h:i« applied for exemption tinder the Public Works.— Decided to write f'oi an opinion from Mr Martin. From Mr Atmore, asking for n street lamp near hi- residence in Domain road. Owing to the near approach of electrical ret.leuhtt.iott of the Borough the committee consider the expense of installation was hardly justified, also that more needy places should bo attended to first. Tenders for carting. The Committee considered the lender- 1 for carting and reeominend that Mr Thomson’s tender be accepted. The Town Clerk reported the name? whore notices had been sent as per Council’s instruction re overhanging fend-s. —jl was further decided to send notice-- to residents between Moutere House mid Railway lire- on Mill Road. Officer for Inspection liangiuru Creek.—The Committee considered that an officer should be sent, to examine z. creek at liangiuru, and where not sat isfactory legal steps be taken t-o enforce clearing of same. Finance Committee's Report. Correspondence from the following was received:— From Palmerston North Hospital Board, re ambulance.—Referred to <’oane-il. From Gore Borough Council, suggesting tliis Council .support them in securing tor local bodies the amusement tax collected in their own areas.— A greed to support the principle, but decided not to consider it advisable for local authorities to collect, this should be done lhrough the Government. From Horowhenua Rugby Union, asking for tie- amount due to them to hi forwarded.—Agreed to. From i’atea Borough Council, asking for this * 'oumol's support in a requisition to the Government that all Antecedent liabilities tie pooled and the total raised on a London market.- —The , matter was recommended to Council for favorable consideration. The Town Clerk presented a detailed statement of Btatute-barred Native rates. —On the motion of Gr. Bills and Taylor it was decided to recommend that the whole tie struck off, after the list had been placed before the Council. With reference to the arrears for tbir last four years, summons are to be issued in many cases arid liens oil all others. It was further decided that owing to the large cost paid to solicitors last year, compared with the small return that the office take the eases to be taken to court and register the liens. The committee discussed the payment of ranger’s salary, and unanimously recommended to Council that fresh applications h“ called to fill the position.
