OTAKI FIRE BRIGADE

.ANNUAL AIE ETBM G. j The annual meeting of the above Fire Brigade was fairly well attended, and the report, which was as follows, considered satisfactory:— “During the last year, as in each preceding year, the Brigade has shown a steady advance, and although the advance has been slower than what we would like to see the position to-day is , nevertheless a very satisfactory one, and great credit is due to those who have stuck to the Brigade since it was formed. Many thanks are due to the public i'or liberal support. The subsidy of £35 paid by the Borough Council enabled the Brigade to pay off the sum of £25 to Mr.St. George, being the balance of purchase money for the Brigade buildings, which amount had been owing for a very long time. The Brigade is now quite free of debt. During the year six of the monthly meetings were held and three lire calls made, nine parades in all, although on our call the Brigade had no need to take the engine out. Two new members were enrolled, and twp left the district, leaving the strength of the Brigade unaltered. The attendance at the monthly meetings leaves much to be desired, and it was desired that the members make an effort to attend these meetings 1 which are not very long ones. By doi ing so it would arouse more enthusiasm | in the general working and advance- ' men! of the Brigade. Now tlm! we ■ may expect to have water laid on in the i town we have every inducement t” I make the working of the Brigade more oflicient, and the only way to attain that end is by regular attendance and general enthusiasm in the work.
