OTAKI CABARET CLUB.

A SUCCESSFUL OPENING. The large gathering present at the opening of the Otaki Cabaret Club on Monday night was pleasantly surprised on entering the theatre to see the transformation that presented itself. The ulterior of the building hot only presented a pleasing appearance but an attractive one, the large rich, carpets, the elaborate furniture, the neat eard tables, the pretty electric bulbs, etc., all being admired. These, with lovely dresses of the ladies, presented a fine spectacle, nnd one that will not be readily forgotten. Credit for the enterprise is largely due to Mr A. F. Jauncey, who had not only gone to considerable trouble, but had incurred much expense in installing splendid furnishings, while Mr Rae Crichton, irho is also a keen enthusiast, was to the fore as director. The success of the entertainment was due to these gentlemen, who were ably assisted by a strong committee, chief among the number being Mrs H. C. Stahle. The object of the Club, as previously pointed out, is to provide entertainment for the winter season and to further the social life of Otaki and the suroruruling districts. Dancing, naturally, will be the main feature but cards will be provided for non-dancers. On Monday night last all entered spiritedly into the object of the gathering, and dancers, aided by a line floor and the best. of music (provided by the Tahiwi orchestra), tripped the light fantastic. till the early hours of the morn. Supper arrangements were also complete, and left nothing to be desired. During the evening Dr. Sharp, in the unavoidable absence of His Worship the Mayor (Mr Brandon) dwlaTed the Club open, and in doing so said it was the first of its kind between Palmerston N. and Wellington, and he hoped it would merit the support it so richly deserved. Success depended upon the patrons themselves and he hoped if they had a good time that evening they would tell their friends so, and thus help swell the members. The management, he desired to state, was not out for profit but for pleasure, and he hoped all would be sociable and happy, and act as if they had known each other for years. In conclusion Dr. Sharp stated that thanks were due to Messrs Jauncey nnd Crichton for the comfortable way the theatre had been arranged.
