The Levin Chamber of Commerce decided at its meeting on Monday night to fall in with the letter of the Act regarding Easter holidays. Accordingly the shops will be closed on Good Friday and the Wednesday afternoon preceding, and will remain open on Easter Saturday. In the following week Easter Monday and the usual Wednesday afternoon holiday will be observed.

The Druids’ Hall was crowded last night on the occasion of the usual fortnightly meeting of the Otaki Lodge of Druids. A Ritual competition on the Vice Arch charge was held for a medal presented by P.D.P. Bro. Symonds. There were thirteen competitors, nil of whom acquitted themselves very creditably. Bro. V. Letford was the winner, with Bro. T. Webby a close second. P.D.P. Bro. Lowry and Bro. Davies were .-judges, and gave every Satisfaction. P.D.P. Bro. Lowry offered a trophy for the best essay of two foolscap sheets on the early history of Druids. After Lodge closed light refreshments were provided.

There was ah unrehearsed incident at the performance of Wirth's «ir«us at Auckland that caused not a little amusement. A stray terrier entered the tent, and for some considerable time made himself unpopular by yelping and barking at the performers in the proximity of the ring. At last one of the artists could stand it no longer, and said a few words to a baboon, who at the time was engaging the attention of the audience. With u bound, the animal, grotesquely garbed in trousers and coat, made fw the terrier, grasped him by the taij. and "swung him round his head for a moment or so. It had the desired effect, and in a trice the baboon was back on his stool. Nothing further was heard from the terrier, except hi- frightened velps as he disappeared from the tent.

A euchre tournament will be held in the Druids’ Hall on Monday night as advertised. The Te Horo Football Club’s dance will be held to-night and a large gathering is expected. Messrs Wardell Bros, and Co. advertise kerosene at 14s 9d per case or five case lots at 14s 3d. The Hautere Defence Rifle Club intend holding a dance in the Te Horo hall on Easter Monday night. The annual meeting of the Otaki Football Club will be held to-morrow night at 7.30 o’clock. Members of the Oruki Surf Club are reminded of the meeting to be held tonight to consider rules, etc. The annual meeting of the Otaki Hockey Club will tie held at 6.45 this evening. All members and intending members are asked to attend.
