STEPS AT OTAKI Ladies of Otaki and district met at the Town Board’# offices on Friday to consider what steps should be taken to alleviate the sufferings of the starving millions of Europe. On the suggestion of Mrs Atkinson it was decided to hold a gala day, when children’s races could bo held, also tugs-of-war, bran-tubs, guessing competitions, while various stalls and luncheon rooms would also be prominent. features. If. was agreed to provide hot water free. The ladies considered the suggestion a very good one, and thought at Christmas or New Year time the best results would be obtained. It was decided to solicit the assistance of the male members of the committee. It was decided to support the auction -ale on December 15th bv providing refreshments both afternoon and evening. It was decided to form a branch committee of ladies at Manakau and Te flora, and resolved to a*k. Mrs Hodgson to take charge of the refreshment# on ihf afternoon of the 15th and Mrs Bills to take charge in the evening. The whole of the town and district was mapped out for canvassing, each lady present signifying willingness to do her share. The secretary (Mr Davies) promised to givc particular# re the benefit picture entertainment and attend to other matters of detail.
