A LEVIN CASE.
CHARGE OF ARSON. Clarence Janies Davison, a boy 15 years of age, was charged at Palmerston on Aiouday that on October 23rd at Levin, he wilfully set fire to a butcher’s shop in Oxford street occupied by Joseph Lemmon. Air J. P. Innes appeared for accused and DetectiveSergeant Quirke for tho police. Joseph Lemmon deposed that on the morning of October 23rd he found the door of the right-of-way at tho side of the shop had boen opened and he saw a heap of charred wood against the side door of the premises. The fire had evidently been put out. The door-step and the wall under the doorstep bad been burned, and the walls scorched. The accused had formerly worked for witness and had left his employ in March. After the boy left witness accused him of stealing some aprons. Accused had returned two of tho aprons. Detective-Sergeant Quirke deposed that on October 23rd he had interviewed accused about the present charge. Witness reud the statement in which accused admitted having set fire to the shop and described how it was done. To Air Innes: The cost of repairs would be under £2. Accused pleaded guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. Bail was allowed in the sum of £SO and one surety of £SO. —“Daily Times.”
