MANAKAU NOTES.

TENNIS CLUB DANCE. On Friday night lust the dance in aid of the Manakau Tennis Club, held at the Manakau Ball, passed off sue- . cessf ully and pleasantly. The joint secretaries (Mr Duueum and Mrs H. G. Bryant) had worked hard beforehand, and consequently the arrangements left little to eb desired. The hail had been tastefully decorated by Mcsdames Burnell and Bryant and Miss Ruby Bevan, and presented a most attractive appearance. The music, supplied by the Cook orchestra, was much appreciated, and the large number present speak highly of the way in which their enjoyment was catered for in all respects. The ladies kindly provided the supper, which was, as usual, tempting and dainty. The dance was a financial as well as a soeial success, and will help to swell the funds of the local Tennis Club.

As Major aud Mrs Tatum were driving home a few nights ago they met with a nasty mishap. The night was exceedingly black, aud the horse went- over U steep embankment just past the blacksmith’s shop. All of the occupants were thrown out, but, for-

tunately, all escaped with very slight injuries. One of the shafts of the vehicle was broken, and a little paint scratched off.

We were in error in stating, in our last issue, that the village choir, formed last week, was under ihe aus-' pices of the Y.M.C.A. The choir is a public organisation, and is open to all. Mr Wise is the conductor, and Mrs Meharry secretary. A further meeting was held on Thursday night last, but, owing to the bad weather preventing many from attending, it was decided to hold another meeting this week, when better luck is hoped for.
