HOROWHENUA COUNTY COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING. The ordinary monthly meeting of the ■ above was held on Saturday at Levin. j Present: Crs. G. A. Monk (chairman), F. Colei-, F. .T. Ryder, J. R. AATiyte, H. i Barber, AV. J. Bryant, Jas. McLeavey, j C. I. Harkness, B. A. Broadbelt. General Business. Mr A. Seed wrote urging for road exi tension at the Otaki Gorge, and on the , chairman’s suggestion the matter was i referred to the engineer to locate pegs , and then give an estimate of j Cr. Ryder reported that a culvert put ! in on Hiverbank road had been satisfac!j torily done by the Town Board, but he | suggested some filling.—To be attended [: to. All account of £9 (3s Od due to the >i Board fur the work was paused for payi ment. It was reported that Crs. Ryder and Bryant had inspected a cottage at ; Manakau with a view to purchasing it but the former stated there was a dis- * pute over the area of the land, and it was believed that the boundary was through the middle of the house. It 1 was reported that the price agreed upon was for a three-quarter acre section, while in fact there was only half an acre. Pending this trouble no finality had been arrived at. —Left to Crs. Ryder and Bryant and the engineer to purchase if satisfactory settlement could be arrived at.
Cr. AA'hytc said in regard to Pretoria road there was a complaint by Mr Mullins. He and the engineer had inspected the road and found Jive or six chains of formation and channelling needing attention. He suggested the engineer attend to the matter. —To be attended to.
Cr. Barber also suggested small im provements in his riding. These it wa: decided to have attended (o.
Cr. McLeavey said Mr Easton was doing 10U chains of fencing, and asked if the engineer could draw up specifications so that the Council’s requirements would be carried out. —Agreed to, conditionally. • Cr. Harkness- said there were several complaints relative to the Oliau AVest road, and asked that the engineer at tend to them. He also suggested that the hydraulic ram be utilised for,pumping water to sections held by soldiers and others. —Left to the engineer. Cr. Ryder drew attention to the decking of the Otaki bridge.—To receive attention.
I Or. Coley said he had been out of the district for a time, and had nothing to || report on. He thought, however, gates : on roads should be put in better repair.
The Chairman said nearly all the main roads in his riding were in good order.
The ranger reported that during the 'month he had impounded 66 head of stock. Several.offenders had been sued land others were to be summoned ut the next sittings of the Otaki and Levin i Court.-. i Crs Ryder and Bryant stated they i had interviewed Mr Miles relative to water-races at Manakau. but as they could not undertand the plan asked that the matter be held over.—Agreed to.
