MANAKAU.
FARMERS’ UNION SOCIAL. It was a happy idea that prompted the Manakau branch of the Farmers’ Union to hold a social gathering. The function was held in the Manakau Hall 'ou Friday last, and was such an unqualified success that it it hoped and expected that the affair will be made an annual fixture, as such gatherings tend to promote good fellowship among the 1 district residents. The sub-committee , set up to carry out the function—and more especially the energetic secretary (Mr C. AV. Duncum) —are to be congratulated on the entbuiasm they displayed, and for the excellence of the arrangements. The attendance very large, including many visWors from all parts of the district and if was certainly one of the most enjoy- | able gatherings held at Manakau for a long time past. Excellent dance music : was provided by the Cook Orchetra | (Otaki), while Messrs AV. Bevan and H. G. Bryant, as M’s. C.. were most attentive to their duties. During the ’ evening Messrs Natt Hanley (Otaki) and J. D. Brown contributed musical items which were much appreciated. ’ Mr Hanley had to respond to numerous encores. The ladies had tastefully decorated the hall for the occasion, and provided an abundant and appetising supper.
