PARAPARAUMU HURTICULTURAL AND INDUSTRIAL SOCIETY.

SPRING SHOW. ; The Paraparaumu and District Hori ticultural Society is to be congratulated on the splendid success of its ; spring show, held at the Coronation j Hall, Paraparaumu, on Wednesday ! last in perfect weather. The season, ! contrary to expectations a few weeks : ago, has proved a backward one for spring bulbs, and it was feared this ! would seriously affect the show. ! Though it certainly accounted for a much smaller entry than would otherwise have been the ease, the display of glorious daffodils was a very beautiful one indeed, and was undoubtedly the most attractive feature of the show, from a horticultural point of view. Mr Harold Small, of Otaki, won the majority of the prizes for narcissi, though there was keeu competition in most classes, and many of the other entries included nice specimens. When district residents become a little, better acquainted with the classifying of their bulbs, doubtless Paraparaumu enthusiasts will take a lot of beating i,i the growing of bulbs. The bouquets and decorations were very pretty, vegetables were tip-top, tiie ucedlework included many beautiful specimens of work, the schoolchildren's section was well competed for, while the domestic class was u particularly strong one, the entries being numerous, and the exhibits really iirst-class on the whole. There • was not a weak class in the whole show, and the entry was large—some- ( where in the neighbourhood of SUO in j. all. The accommodation of the hall r was taxed to its utmost. j

As usual, Mr J. G. Maclean proved a most able and painstaking secretary, and it was largely owing to his efforts, ably seconded by Air E. Clarke, the energetic treasurer, that, the function passed off so successfully. The class

stewards also did their work admirably on the whole. A word of praise is also due to Mrs Hadfield (president of Hie society), who takes a keen interest ia the show, and worked hard to helji make it a success.
