The.road man (it. Webby) reported that he had inspected the ltnnghiru bridge and found parts that were far from sound. Home of the decking

needed renewing, while stringers,wore so rotten that a nail could be pushed through with the fingers. There, was Jikelv to be increased traffic during the summer, and the structure -was liable to give way.—The Chairman ami Com. Ollivcr were appointed to inspeci the bridge with a view of having i ; thoroughly attended to. Roads and footpaths. The roadman reported that all road were in fair order, that pipes had been put in on Kivcrbnnk road and the hoi low attended to. He now intended to give attention to the Mil! I!oad foot paths. He asked if the Board intended asphalting the eastern fool path in tinbusiness portion of the town. Commissioners agreed that it was advisable this should be done, it being i" ported that there was a quantity of tar ou hand, while more had been ordered Unsatisfactory Drains. Messrs Tews Bros., J. Messrs H- Tews and Bolton waited on the Board in support of their letter, and pointed but that the had state of the drains was causing no end ol trouble, and if left longer the proper course would be completely blocked and the water allowed to spread over the land. It ay as generally agreed that .something should be done, and the Chairman and Com. Noble were appointed to view the locality with power to act. Resignation of Clerk. M. 11. Ayre wrote resigning his position as clerk and returning officer to -ihc Board, and thanking both past ana present commissioners, and especially the present Chairman, tor kindness while in the Board’s employ. The Chairman, in moving that the

resignation be accepted with regre. said he felt certain that Mr Avre w-i

taking a wise step for his own interests. It was known that ho had an

interest in a business at Otaki Railway that needed his attention, while the salary offered by the Board was not sufficient to induce him to hold office. The motion was duly carried. Electors’ Roll. The Chairman. Corns. Noble and Nieolson were appointed to sign the electors’ roll. Out of Office. The Chairman pointed out that the meeting was the last as far as the present Board was concerned, and he took the opportunity of thanking members for their consideration to him. Mem* bets, in turn, congratulated the chairman, and expressed a wish that at the coming election he would be returned 10 his old seat, which he had filled with every credit. Mr Brandon, in suggesting that commissioners agree to resign, if reelected unopposed, till the fate of the borough was known, expressed a hope that the borough proposal would be brought to a successful issue. In his own mind he was confident the conversion would be made. Commissioners present willingly signed a declaration to rhe above effect Accounts.
