Rhodes (Thames), Sir William Berries , (Minister for Customs) stated yester- v day that: “Apparatus for the manu- u facturc of industrial alcohol has just j been imported, and it is expected in u , the near future that some thousands p of gallons will be turned out annually, i „ Should the process prove successful it is expected that the auuual quantity ~ will eventually' run into some hundreds j; of thousands of gallons. Imported methylated spirits in warehouses in New Zealand are liable to duty at (id the gallon, yffus I per cent ad valorem (primage), while locally-distilled spirit * methylated in a distillery in the 0 Dominion would be free of any duty. This is equivalent to a bonus of 6d 1’ per gallon, plus I per cent ad valorem on spirits made in New Zealand." t ii
