MANAKAU NOTES.
THE LATE ME NEWSON. The funeral of the late Mr New'so; took place at Manakau on Wednesda; last, when there; was a, very large am representative gathering".-- An impres sive funeral service was conducted bi the Rev. W. G.*Slade, M.A., at tin Methodist Church, the same gentleman 1 officiating at the graveside, where a I touching service was held. "Among J those in the cortege were representatives of the Methodist Church, the Manakau public school, Horowlicnua County Council, of which Mr N'ewson was a servant (this body was represented by tho County Clerk, Mr Goldsmith), and other bodies. A veiy large number of beautiful wreaths were placed on the casket, anion''.- the number being one from the trustees of the Mothodi: t'Uiunli (Mr Xcu.-oii v. as one of the Trustees), and three from the various classes of the Maiinkau State school (deceased acted as caretaker of the school buildings).
Mr G. H. Kingdom who recently sold his Manakau farm property, has pur-. chased a small farm of about fill acres at Ohau.
A public meeting will be held here on Monday night next lo consider the arrangements for the visit of the Manakau school children to Otaki on Monday, May 3id. on the occasion of the visit of the Prime of Wales, For the sake of the little one-, it is hoped that the trip will be definitely arranged, as otherwise, he children of tne lower standards of the school—and ihese comprise fully if not more than half the whole school—will not have any
opportunity of seeing their future King, as only (lie elder children will bo taken to I'almerston North.
