THE LATE CANUN PETRIE.
Canon Petrie, 8.A., father of the Rev. G. F. Petrie. M.A., of Otaki. died recontly at Alford, Scotland, at the
ripe age of .SI years. Scottish papers just, to hand give lengthy obituary notices, from which we gather that Canon Petrie was a truly remarkable man, and much loved by all. He was a graduate of the University of London, where he took his B.A. degree in 1805. During his 33 years' incumbency of !S(. Andrew's Episcopal Church—which he resigned in April last, being succeeded by one of Ins sons, Rev. W 6. B. Petri-, M.A.—he led an active life, .pending and being spent in the service of the community, especially of the young and rising generation. One
of the Scottish papers says: "All over the world hi-, scholar are : pread, and many heart.-, will be sore at the demise of their old teacher and adviser. His life was an outstanding example of what can be accomplished by sheer application and perseverance and 'Scotch grit.'" When the Chapter of the Cathedral Chinch of Sit.
