A FALSE START.
A WELL-KNOWN JOCKEY FINED. i .At the recent Horowhenua A. and P. Society’s show one of the pony races was prematurely started, it is alleged, by W. Bell, a well-known jockey, who was at the time leading Rewa to the post, by shouting “Go!” rue field covered the distance, but the race had to bo re-run, ami in consequence the [ judge, Mr G. Tullv, reported the occurrence. It was decided to ask Bell to attend a committee meeting and give j an explanation of his conduct, but Bell failed to do so. The committee re- ' seated this treatment, considering they •had been treated with contempt, and in view of the occurrence Mr Tully has moved that Bell be lined £5 for wrongfully starting the race, and failing the fine being paid within fourteen days to Teport him to the Metropolitan Club. Tho motion was seconded by Mr Davis and carried unanimously.
